About Us

ABOUT US

The issue is that many people in underserved communities lack access to healthcare or have no access to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Our solution to this issue is to provide the people in these communities with workshops to help bring access to healthcare and healthy lifestyles, as
well as to give resources for longer lasting impact.

Our Mission

The mission of the SelfCare Foundation is to provide knowledge and resources to individuals by focusing on promoting awareness for healthy lifestyles in underserved communities in Chicago. The team will be conducting workshops in these underserved areas to provide knowledge on prevention techniques to avoid common health risks like diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, and many others that impact people’s day-to-day lives. We aim to bridge the gap for those who lack knowledge of accessing healthcare services and struggle to maintain a healthy way of life.
Our impact is measured not only by the tangible outcomes we achieve, such as funds raised and workshops conducted, but also by the lasting changes we effect in the lives of those we serve. By tracking metrics such as attendance at workshops, partnerships forged, and providing individual assistance based on specific needs, we aim to continually evaluate and improve the effectiveness of our efforts.
As we move forward, our vision is to expand our reach and deepen our impact, ultimately working towards the establishment of mobile clinics to directly serve communities in need. Through ongoing collaboration, advocacy, and community engagement, we are dedicated to realizing our mission of promoting healthcare access, fostering healthy lifestyles, and empowering individuals to take control of their well-being.

Founder’s Journey

Muhammad Ahmed Imran

At the age of 7 years old, my parents started bringing me to Robbins, Illinois. Initially, I viewed this as an adventure—I’d get to see my uncle and help with a few tasks around his store. One day I walked across the street to the flea market I had gazed at countless times before.
I quickly met a wide variety of community members from predominantly minority backgrounds. Whether it be chatting with Manny at the plumbing booth, or helping Josh load unsold suitcases, soon I began seeing an unfortunate pattern where too many booth patrons were plagued by chronic and harsh medical conditions. Without access to healthcare, everyone had become accustomed to simply working through the pain to provide for their families.
As I grew older and continued to see how these underserved people struggled so much, I noticed that a common theme for most of them was neglecting their own medical needs to continue working endlessly.
The time I spend here has undoubtedly changed the way I see medicine. This is why I have decided to start the SelfCare Foundation to assist people who lack both health awareness and resources.

My dedication to serving others stems from my early involvement with communities in need of medical assistance, starting at the age of 7. Through this experience, I encountered individuals from diverse backgrounds and recognized a prevalent pattern: many prioritized providing for their families over addressing their own health needs, viewing healthcare as a luxury rather than a necessity. Motivated by this observation, I established the SelfCare Foundation to make a positive difference in underserved communities.

My decision to join this Non-Profit stems from my firm belief in the importance of prioritizing personal health maintenance. Through personal experience, I have witnessed the effects of neglecting one's health, both physically and mentally. I aim to assist individuals in developing beneficial and sustainable habits that contribute to their journey towards a healthier lifestyle. Additionally, I understand that even a gentle nudge can serve as a powerful motivator for individuals to focus on their well-being.

My decision to join this journey with this Non-Profit to help underserved communities developed from my passion for joining the healthcare field, as my father has been a family physician for the past 20 years. Having seen and heard the number of times people hesitate to go to the doctor, from a young age. My goal is to build trust and bonds between doctors and people in underserved communities. This is due to my belief that having a trusted relationship with a doctor not only leads to a healthier physical lifestyle but also a mentally healthier one.
